A Word from the Presidents
Former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon once spoke about MUNs as such “Your goal may be to resolve a conflict, to cope with a natural disaster or to bring nations together on an issue like climate change. You may be playing a role, but you are also preparing for life. You are acting as global citizens”. The concept of Model United Nations started in 1921 at Oxford University and has since then travelled across borders to gather students from all over the world in educational simulations which help them get a better grasp at the World’s current political issues.
What started as a small student gathering in 2015 has now grown into a full blown student organisation which people came to know as ESPOMUN ; in 2020, the association will be celebrating its fifth anniversary and we could not be any prouder. It is undeniable that this event is happening under special circumstances, ESPOMUN is facing new challenges due to the sanitary situation. However, our team is more than ready to face them. Indeed, we will not stray away from our goals and strive even harder to reach them.
In this light, our association will be training delegates to become experts in diplomatic relations and debates, making them masters of rhetoric, eloquence and rules of procedures. They will be proudly representing the colors of their home school, ESPOL -also known as the European School of Political and Social Sciences-, all across France, Europe and the World ; most notably in Tokyo where we are sending a delegation to participate in this year’s edition of Harvard WorldMUN, happening in March 2021.
Nevertheless, our main honor resides in the fact that we are organising the fourth edition of our very own MUN conference where you all will be able to gather in our northern city going by the name of Lille to discuss geopolitical issues all centered around this edition’s main theme: Global Warning. Here, at ESPOMUN, we have handpicked for you an organising team made from the best of the best of our school, all ready to put together an event you will not be able to forget!
Mahatma Gandhi once rightfully said that “you have to be the change you wish to see in the world”. So come help us do just that, at ESPOMUN in 2020-2021.
